Atomic Coffee Roasters

1996
John Mahoney
Coffee Review Rated many coffees over 91 + scores.

Brothers Andrew and John Mahoney opened Atomic Cafe in 1996. We take pride in every aspect involved in presenting you with the best cup of coffee possible. Not only do we roast all our own coffee, but we are meticulous in our selection of green beans. Whether we're buying from South or Central America, Africa or Indonesia or anywhere else in the coffee-growing world... We only buy the finest specialty grade Arabica beans. And we always pay prices that ensure farmers receive fair wages for their hard work. Once the coffees have been imported to the states and shipped to our cafe, we work long hours to determine each coffee's optimum roast profile, which we always evaluate in a rigorous coffee-tasting practice called 'cupping'. Atomic Coffee Roasters is a Roaster / Retailer located on the North Shore of Boston. Founded in 1996 we began roasting in 2004 and quickly gained national recognition for outstanding quality and consistency. In addition to roasting for our own stores, we have an ever-expanding list of wholesale customers including outstanding cafes, finer grocery stores, and posh restaurants. We work tirelessly to source the best coffees from around the world so that you can buy specialty grade Arabica coffee, freshly roasted five days a week in our Beverly store.

Such a good Ethiopia. So floral and bright. Great as a shot, great as a pour over, perfect in a cappuccino.

This is hands down my favorite Ethiopian I have tried so far. Typically Ethiopians in specialty coffee are roaster very very lightly, accentuating the floral notes, but this one takes a risk and while still a light roast, approaches a medium which paid off well. The classic Ethiopian flavors are all present but more balanced than I have seen from other roasters.

Used a 16:1 ratio, and a grind size of "17 or 18" in a Kalita. I loved it, but had to make the grind size larger than expected to yield what I was intending.
A very floral coffee, and I would put it on the darker side of light, but it mixes well with chocolate.
